Do you ever wonder what it is about essential oils and herbs that make them so effective? Well here's what you need to know!
When you hear the term “energetic property” being used when describing a plant or oil, it’s referring to the subtle ways plants or oils impact the human mind, body, and spirit. Qualities of how that plant works, like cooling, drying, moistening, or warming would fall into this category. People also have energetic properties. Are you thirsty all the time? Do you tend to run hot or cold? When you know what your energetic properties are, you can match herbs and oils to get back into balance. For example, the oil and herb of peppermint is both cooling and drying. It assists blood vessels to dilate, which helps open airways encouraging circulatory flow. Dehydration can actually alter the shape of your brain, ultimately affecting your everyday performance. Several studies show how Chamomile tea can rehydrate the body after severe dehydration.
Conditions can also have an energetic quality. A sunburn or fever is warm, a cough can be moist or dry. Chronic swelling can be damp, moist or hot, depending on what it is. Selecting herbs and oils that have opposite qualities can counteract unwanted energetics by bringing the body back to equilibrium. For example, to extinguish the heat of a sunburn, select a plant with cooling qualities such as aloe. Elderflowers are cooling, and they work their magic by helping the body sweat. Drinking elderflower tea can reduce temperatures when you are sick.
Essential oils are at their best when used for the mind and spirit. Citrus oils are calming, restorative and uplifting making them a go-to for anxiety, depression and boosting mood. Diffusing these oils in a room while sleeping can enhance your mental state during the day. Peppermint, rosemary, and spearmint oils are invigorating, stimulating, and energizing, which encourages clarity. Try using these oils to help focus, stay awake and recharge your brain. There really is a plant or oil to help with every aspect of our human life. They are there to help us get through the tough times and set us back on our path.
